Living in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina can be a naturalist's dream come true. The eco-system in this part of the world is extremely unique to the Southern Appalachian Mountains, and Connestee Falls is a microcosm of the same rich variety.
Here you'll have four seasons. The bright greens of spring, the lushness of summer, the kaleidoscope of fall, and just enough winter to put nature to sleep long enough to begin the cycle over again. Oconee Bells, trillium, Jack-in-the-pulpit, hemlocks, poplar, oaks and maples, along with rhododendron and mountain laurel are characteristic of the flora. Black bear, bobcats, deer and many species of birds, including bald eagles, are just a few of the types of wildlife that live in the 1,800 acres of common area within Connestee's gates.
Being caretakers of Connestee Falls' natural assets is important to those who live here. One of the community's goals is to balance the use of the land with the enjoyment that nature provides and residents highly value. In 2021, the community began the process of developing a formal natural resources stewardship plan, a plan that will be used to ensure the long-term sustainability of the community's natural environment.
